Ministers Elmer Schialer (Foreign Affairs) and Morgan Quero (Education) highlighted the importance of
, which will address the sustainable use of the Peruvian Sea.
The ambassador noted that the signature must be validated by Congress for Peru to become a party to the Law of the Sea Convention.
Likewise, Schialer referred to the High Seas Treaty, or BBNJ Agreement. It states that beyond Peru's 200 nautical miles lies the high seas, which should also be subject to sustainable management of hydrobiological resources.
In turn, Minister Quero, following the inauguration of a school, thanked Congress for approving the president's trip to the UNOC3 summit. This event will bring together more than 20 Heads of State from various countries.
"We are proud that the president can represent us and coordinate international cooperation policies which enable us to be recognized as a country that protects the sea and its sovereignty," he indicated.
The Foreign Affairs Minister also addressed other topics, including the possible transfer of high-risk prisoners to El Salvador.
The diplomat said that no communication has yet been established with the Salvadoran Foreign Affairs Ministry on the matter.
"We have a problem with insecurity, as well as overcrowding in prisons, which is unacceptable. This situation cannot be resolved overnight; practical measures are needed, such as assistance from El Salvador or other countries," he concluded.
