on Wednesday reported that the Executive Branch, through its various sectors, is preparing contingency plans to address El Niño, heavy rainfall, and emergencies associated with this weather phenomenon.
The government spokesman made these remarks at a press conference held at the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) in Lima's Chorrillos district.
Likewise, the government official announced that a Regional State Council meeting will take place at that venue on July 2.
Arroyo also noted that Executive Branch sectors are preparing technical files for projects aimed at addressing such emergencies in future years, particularly in Peru’s coastal cities, from Tumbes to Ica, in order to strengthen their resilience.
The Prime Minister mentioned drainage infrastructure projects as an example of the public works needed to address heavy rainfall and other related events.
According to Arroyo, the National Infrastructure Authority (ANIN) is currently preparing the technical files required to carry out these projects.
"All sectors are working both independently and jointly on contingency plans that will enable us to mitigate future damage. Obviously, we are, of course, taking preventive measures and carrying out mitigation efforts. Various budgets have been allocated for this purpose, including those of Indeci, different government sectors, ANIN, and other entities," he stated.
Also participating in the event were Ministers Amadeo Flores (Defense), Rodolfo Acuña (Economy and Finance), Aldo Prieto (Transportation and Communications), Cesar Quispe (Production), and National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) Chief Luis Vasquez.
