During the formal session, JNE Secretary General Yessica Clavijo reported the votes obtained by Fujimori Higuchi and Sanchez Palomino, as well as by the other political organizations that participated in the election.
According to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) vote count, Keiko Fujimori obtained 2,877,678 votes, while Roberto Sanchez received 2,015,114 votes, she said.
In addition, the secretary general noted that no presidential ticket obtained more than half of the valid votes, making it necessary to hold a runoff election between the two political organizations that received the highest relative majorities: Popular Force and Together for Peru.
She also underscored that the JNE reviewed all proclamation records from the Special Electoral Boards (JEE) to guarantee double-instance review, emphasizing that no inconsistencies were found after the examination.
Subsequently, JNE Chairman Roberto Burneo concluded that the presidential tickets that "obtained the two highest majorities were the Popular Force political party, with its presidential candidate Keiko Sofia Fujimori Higuchi, and the Together for Peru political party, with its presidential candidate Roberto Helbert Sanchez Palomino."
"Consequently, in accordance with the Political Constitution of the State, the Organic Elections Law, and Supreme Decree 039-2025-PCM, the date for a second presidential election between the tickets of the Popular Force party and the Together for Peru party is set for Sunday, June 7, 2026," he stated.
