The Head of State was accompanied by Ministers Rafael Belaunde (Defense) and Cesar Astudillo (Interior) on this occasion.
During the ceremony, Articles 118 and 167 of the Constitution were read aloud, establishing the President of the Republic as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police, as well as referring to the National Defense System.
The Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Army General Cesar Briceño Valdivia, formally recognized the top official.
Afterwards, he presented her with the Command Baton, a symbol of authority and supreme command over the forces in charge of national defense and internal order.
"I present you with the Command Baton, a symbol of the authority conferred upon you by the Political Constitution of Peru as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police," Briceño Valdivia stated.
The Head of State said she received the symbol with profound gratitude and great pride.
The ceremony was attended by the Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Army General Cesar Augusto Briceño Valdivia; Army General Commander Oswaldo Calle Talledo; Air Force Commander, Air General Mario Contreras Leon Carty; Navy General Commander, Admiral Javier Bravo de Rueda Delgado; and Peruvian National Police General Commander Oscar Manuel Arriola Delgado.
The ceremony took place at the Government Palace Courtyard of Honor.
Through this solemn act, the military institutions renewed their commitment to the Constitution, democracy, and the legitimately constituted authority embodied in the President of the Republic.
This public recognition reaffirmed the legitimacy of the President's command over the Armed Forces and the Police, consolidating the political leadership of the defense sector and internal order under civilian authority.
It also symbolized the historical continuity of the Armed Forces and the National Police as professional, disciplined institutions committed to the democratic values that govern the country.
Additionally, the Head of State will preside over the Grand Civic-Military Parade as part of Peru's Independence Day celebrations on Brasil Avenue in Lima's Jesus Maria district.
