The President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, expressed, on behalf of the Peruvian people and in her own name, deep affection and solidarity with Pope Leo XIV, wishing him a speedy recovery after the Supreme Pontiff announced that he would undergo surgery to remove a lung nodule.

"I wish to express, on behalf of the Peruvian people and in my own name, our profound affection and solidarity with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV in light of his current health situation, which we hope he will overcome fully and successfully," Fujimori stated via X on Sunday.

The Head of State said the hearts and prayers of the Peruvian people stand with His Holiness, "with the wish of having him back among us soon."

"We hope, with deep faith and hope, that the Holy Father makes a speedy recovery and can continue to guide the whole Holy Church along the path of faith with wisdom and strength," she emphasized.

"May all the prayers of the Peruvian people for the health of our beloved Pope be channeled through our Lord of Miracles," she added.

Moreover, the top official on Sunday attended a Holy Mass for the Nation at Las Nazarenas Sanctuary in downtown Lima, where prayers were also offered for His Holiness.

Lima Archbishop, Cardinal Carlos Castillo, welcomed the presence of the President and other officials at the religious service, where prayers were also offered for the Supreme Pontiff.

"It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized," the Holy Father indicated.

"The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days," he added.
