The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) reported that public-use terminals of the National Port System handled 17.6 million metric tons between January and March this year, a figure representing a 4.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

The National Port Authority (APN) said the result marks a new historic record for port activity and reaffirms the dynamism of Peru's foreign trade.

According to APN's latest statistical report, the largest increase was recorded in roll-on/roll-off cargo, which grew 62.9%.

Break bulk cargo stood out with a 10.9% increase, followed by bulk minerals with 9.3%, containerized cargo, which rose 4.1%, and dry bulk cargo, up 0.1%.

The MTC said the figures reflect stronger logistics and trade activity at Peru's main ports.

This performance is linked to infrastructure improvements and the strengthening of port terminals' operational capacity, factors that have made it possible to respond to higher demand and optimize the flow and transport of goods.

The sector also highlighted that the performance of the National Port System helps boost the country's competitiveness, generate greater opportunities for foreign trade, and position Peru as a strategic player within regional and international shipping routes.

The MTC reaffirmed its commitment to continue boosting port modernization and the development of more efficient logistics services in order to contribute to Peru’s economic development.
