Peru is making progress in its accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Within this framework, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) led the official presentation of the report titled "Regional Development Policies in Peru," prepared by a specialized committee of the organization.

The document outlines the South American country's improvements in policies aimed at fostering regional development over the past decade.

The report highlights the Peruvian State's institutional maturity in planning projects and setting long-term goals, as well as its strategic use of territorial data to address disparities and boost growth.

Moreover, the assessment recognizes the strengthening of the operational capabilities of the Executive Branch, regional governments, and municipalities.

The report was prepared by the OECD Regional Development Policy Committee and offers a favorable assessment of the country's performance.

As a result, Peru has secured the approval of 7 of the 23 reviewing committees and has achieved nearly 40% progress in the technical phase of accession to the organization.

During the official ceremony, the Deputy Territorial Governance Minister at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), Fidel Pintado, noted that the findings provide a roadmap for guiding the next reforms that should be undertaken by the Peruvian State.

The session also provided an opportunity to exchange proposals aimed at strengthening coordination among the different levels of government, enhancing institutional capacities across its territories, and consolidating a multilevel governance framework capable of responding to the nation's challenges.

The event was attended by Peru's High Representative for the OECD accession process, Ambassador Ana Maria Sanchez; Deputy Social Policies and Evaluation Minister at the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis), Marco Maldonado; and Piura Regional Governor Luis Ernesto Neyra.

The presentation was attended by the Deputy Head of the Regional Development and Multilevel Governance Division at the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities, Jose Enrique Garcilazo, and the Chief of the Advisory Cabinet at the PCM, Maria del Pilar Sosa.
