on Tuesday urged all Peruvians and political organizations to patiently await the announcement of the electoral runoff's official final results after exit polls and a quick count indicated a statistical tie between candidates Keiko Fujimori (Popular Force Party) and Roberto Sanchez (Together for Peru Party).
"For example, in the case of overseas voting, the electoral records must physically arrive before they can be counted. In addition, records from some of the country's most remote areas are still pending, as are challenged electoral records that must be reviewed again," Corrado indicated.
"For that reason, with such a narrow margin between the two contenders, it is possible that the candidate currently in the lead could change and then change again. This is a situation that must be monitored with great care, caution, and calm," she underlined.
Regarding the conduct of Sunday's election, the EU EOM chief said the voting process generally unfolded in a calm and orderly manner, with isolated incidents that were promptly addressed by electoral authorities.
"The electoral administration was adequately prepared, and EU observers gave a favorable assessment of the voting and vote-counting processes," Corrado stated.
"The presence of party representatives and domestic observers contributed to the transparency of the process," she told reporters.
The MEP noted that the polling tables observed by the EU EOM had all the necessary materials but opened with delays of up to one hour, mainly due to the absence of polling station members.
Corrado made these remarks during the presentation of the mission's preliminary report on the electoral runoff.
She also announced that the final report, which will include recommendations to improve future electoral processes, is to be presented in August.
The EU EOM has been present in Peru since late February 2026.
On Election Day, it deployed more than 150 international observers from the European Union's 27 member states, as well as from Canada, Switzerland, and Norway.
