The
Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) in Cusco announced the resumption of 10 restoration and enhancement projects involving archaeological and historical monuments located across several provinces in the southeastern region.
The aim of this work is to strengthen the preservation of cultural heritage and boost local economies.
It detailed that a budget of S/15,223,305 (about US$4.38 million) has been allocated for these 10 projects, which will generate more than 600 jobs for professionals, technicians, skilled workers, and local labor.
In this regard, DDC Cusco Director Maritza Rosa Candia reported that the resumed interventions include the recovery of the Inkarakay sector and the Pre-Hispanic Road to the Great Cavern, both located within the Machu Picchu Archaeological Park.

These interventions include the restoration of the San Francisco de Asis de Marcapata Church in Quispicanchi province; the recovery of the Pan de Azucar and Rioja Terraces archaeological site in Anta province; and the restoration of the Yuraq Rumi Ñusta Hispana Archaeological Zone in Choquequirao Archaeological Park, located in La Convencion province.
It was further reported that restoration work has resumed in the Sinkuna Kancha, Hornopata, and Andenes sectors of the Tipon Archaeological Park, in Oropesa district; at the Waqrapukara Archaeological Landscape in Acomayo province; at the Pampamarca Church in Canas province; and at the Tayankani Chapel in Quispicanchi province.
Additionally, the Ministry of Culture launched interventions at the colonial Santa Cruz de Jerusalen Church in Chucuito province, as well as at the Santa Cruz de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Orurillo Church in Melgar province, both in Puno region.
