Foreign Minister Carlos Espá held a meeting today with Ryan Shrum, a senior official from the United States Office of Humanitarian and Disaster Response, and U.S. Ambassador Bernie Navarro. The discussion focused on U.S. cooperation with Peru in light of the imminent impacts of the El Niño phenomenon.

During the meeting, it was noted that both nations maintain a strategic alliance spanning more than two centuries, characterized by a robust and mutually beneficial relationship.

Furthermore, it was highlighted that this alliance sustains a high level and intensity of political dialogue, which allows for the continuous expansion of the bilateral cooperation agenda.

In this context, both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation regarding the El Niño phenomenon with the support of the private sector—specifically through companies specializing in infrastructure, telecommunications, logistics, and supply chains.

Consequently, the potential for incorporating innovative technological solutions to bolster national emergency preparedness and response capabilities was emphasized.

Additionally, the discussion covered the possibility of connecting relevant Peruvian authorities with private-sector firms that specialize in technologies applied to disaster risk management. This includes solutions for flood containment, emergency connectivity, and technologies designed to mitigate the impact of extreme weather events on productive sectors.
