Private investment grew 15.5% in real terms during the first half of 2026, while Peruvian goods exports totaled US$83 billion between January and September, the highest figure ever recorded for that period.

Given this performance, Peru is projected to reach US$100 billion in exports by year-end, Economy and Finance Minister Elmer Cuba highlighted.

During the 21st Meeting of the Chilean-Peruvian Business Council, organized by ComexPeru, the Cabinet member outlined the country's economic outlook and investment opportunities in sectors such as mining, energy, and infrastructure to business leaders and investors.

Ministers Carlos Espa (Foreign Affairs) and Guillermo Shinno (Energy and Mines) also attended the meeting.

Cuba emphasized that Peru has maintained its fiscal soundness despite political instability in recent years.

Likewise, he noted that business expectations regarding investment and hiring remain high.

In this regard, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) projects that Peru's economy will grow by 3.4% in both 2026 and 2027, even amid risks associated with El Niño phenomenon.

Cuba explained that informality affects around 90% of microenterprises outside Lima, evidencing the need to recalibrate tax regulations to foster formalization and business growth.

He also stated that the Executive Branch's reform agenda includes expanding access to financing, improving public investment management, and strengthening tax compliance.

Chile accounts for 13.3% of FDI

Meanwhile, Minister Cuba noted that Chile ranks third among foreign investors in Peru, with cumulative foreign direct investment (FDI) totaling US$4.548 billion, equivalent to 13.3% of the overall amount.

Its investments are concentrated mainly in mining, manufacturing, and energy.

The Cabinet member highlighted opportunities to attract more capital and deepen bilateral trade ties, building on Peru's macroeconomic stability, trade openness, and constitutional guarantees for domestic and foreign investment.
