The President of Peru, Jose Jeri, confirmed that he will receive Chilean President-elect Jose Antonio Kast on January 7, who will be visiting Peru.
As previously reported, the Chilean politician announced that his first visit to a foreign country in 2026 would be to Peru.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Hugo De Zela confirmed in an interview with Andina and El Peruano that Kast's arrival would take place during the first half of January.
"President Jose Jeri confirms that he will receive Chilean President-elect Jose Antonio Kast on January 7, who will hold private meetings with various sectors during his visit to Peru," stated the official account of the Peruvian Presidency.
According to De Zela Martínez, Kast's visit will be a one-day trip with a packed agenda.
"It will probably be a one-day visit, during which he is scheduled to meet with President (Jose Jeri), and perhaps with some other Chilean authorities. I imagine he will also be interested in speaking with some business leaders," the Foreign Minister of Peru, stated.
Jose Antonio Kast was elected President of Chile in the second round on December 14.
The inauguration of the politician, a native of Santiago and leader of the Republican Party, is scheduled for March 11, 2026.
When asked if the Peruvian president would attend the ceremony, the Peruvian Foreign Minister indicated that invitations have not yet been received and that "as soon as they are received, President Jerí will make a decision."
