Peru is on path to success thanks to trade integration policy

11:32 | Lima, Aug. 28.

Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Elizabeth Galdo highlighted that Peru is on the path to success due to its trade integration policy that allows us preferential access to 58 countries.

"We are not resting on our laurels, and we continue to pursue the goal of reaching new trade agreements. At the moment, we have 22 agreements in force," she said in remarks to TVPeru on Tuesday.

The government official mentioned that last week she arrived in El Salvador and met with the host country's Economy Minister Maria Luisa Hayem, as the latter is in charge of free trade agreements in the Central American country.

"We will have a first round of negotiations on September 7 in search of a trade alliance with El Salvador," she remarked.

Negotiation process

Minister Galdo indicated that trade agreements with India, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, and Hong Kong are currently in the negotiation process.

"It should be noted that the negotiation process with Indonesia is very advanced. This is a market of 250 million inhabitants," she noted.

In the case of Hong Kong, Minister Galdo said the free trade agreement with that
economy might be signed in November.
