10:30 | Lima, Jul. 15.

Fuerza Popular (Popular Force political party) leader Keiko Fujimori announced that her father, Alberto Fujimori, will be a presidential candidate in the 2026 general elections.

"My father and I have talked and jointly decided that he will be the presidential candidate," she indicated via social media on Sunday afternoon.

A few days ago, the former congresswoman revealed the former president's desire to return to the political arena.

In a video shared on X, the ex-presidential candidate stated that she supports her father's will.

"I would let my father be the leader of that presidential ticket," she expressed, adding that the former president will be involved in politics until the last day of his life.

85-year-old Alberto Fujimori was President of the Republic from 1990 to 2000.

After his resignation from the Presidency, while being overseas, he was extradited from Chile to face several legal proceedings, including those over
La Cantuta and Barrios Altos crimes, for which in 2009 he was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
