European Union Electoral Observation Mission (EU EOM) Chief Annalisa Corrado stated that the delegation will deploy more than 150 observers for the runoff to monitor the voting process scheduled for Sunday, June 7.

"We will have more than 150 observers on the ground on election day, June 7. Fifty of them will begin working weeks before the vote in the region assigned to them," Corrado told Andina News Agency.

In that regard, the EU EOM chief indicated that the methodology for the runoff will be the same as that used in the first round, when mission members met with representatives of political parties, the electoral administration, civil society, and national observers across the country.

"We will observe the campaign in the streets and, thanks to our monitoring teams, we will assess campaign coverage in traditional media and on social media," she noted.

The European Parliament member added that on election day, observers will be present at as many polling places as possible in all Peruvian regions to monitor the voting process.

Furthermore, Corrado said the delegation will seek to meet with the candidates who advance to the runoff.

"Of course we will (seek to meet with them). In the weeks before the first round of the election, we tried to meet with all presidential candidates, but unfortunately, sometimes because of their tight schedules or their differing priorities, we were unable to speak with all of them," she explained.

The EU EOM chief noted that the mission managed to meet with 14 presidential candidates and with representatives of 34 of the 37 political organizations participating in the first round.
