Mining activity in Peru is currently incorporating new technologies in a concrete and verifiable manner, with direct impacts on operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability, the
Likewise, the government official noted that mining companies are deploying state-of-the-art technologies used worldwide, citing the case of Quellaveco, operated by Anglo American in Moquegua region.
It is considered the country's first 100% digital mine, featuring highly efficient water use, with consumption of just 0.41 cubic meters of water per ton of processed ore.
The deputy minister emphasized that another example is Southern Peru Copper Corporation, which operates the country's first smart mine using 5G technology at Toquepala, strengthening automation and process control.
In Ilo region, the company has also implemented an intelligent emissions control system at its smelter, contributing to more efficient environmental management.
Meanwhile, at Las Bambas mine, technologies are being implemented primarily to enhance safety and environmental management, along with telemetry systems operating through its LTE network, which enable improved monitoring and environmental management of operations.
For its part, Antapaccay has incorporated autonomous drilling, enabling it to increase equipment utilization by up to 70%. Through the SmartRView system, it collects data to establish more precise road maintenance plans, optimizing operations and reducing intervention times.
In the case of Minsur, technological innovation is applied directly to ensure operational continuity.
At the San Rafael unit, predictive models are used to prevent mill shutdowns, while a model has been implemented at the Pucamarca processing plant to predict the percentage of fines leaving the mine, optimizing ore processing.
"Collectively, these examples show that technology has become a core pillar of modern mining in Peru, contributing to greater efficiency, safety, and sustainability," Talavera noted.
Remarks were made during his presentation "Future Vision and Key Mining Projects," delivered at the opening of Mining Engineering Week 2026. This event was organized by the Peruvian Engineers Association (CIP) in Lima.
