"I believe this issue has been fully resolved. I have spoken with the ambassador of Israel, I have spoken with the director of the Jewish community, and they consider it resolved with the statement from the Presidential Office and with my call," he indicated.
Speaking to reporters, Pareja noted that the Head of State regretted that his remarks were not as clear as he would have wished, which led to repercussion from the Jewish community and the Embassy of Germany in Lima.
He added that the statement recently issued by the Presidency of the Republic reaffirmed recognition of the State of Israel as an unchanged position, condemned the Nazi genocide, and expressed solidarity with the families of Holocaust victims.
The minister made the remarks following a ceremony presenting a commemorative coin marking the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between Peru and the United States, attended by U.S. Ambassador Bernie Navarro.
