The Government has created the COVID-19 Operations Command that will aim to lead the organization of all available resources required to combat the coronavirus pandemic in Peru, President Martin Vizcarra announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Within this framework, the Head of State specified that this command —to be led by
former Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti— will have the task of tackling the virus in the most efficient way.
The statesman noted that this guild will be made up of former Health Minister Oscar Ugarte, who represents the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), as well as of Deputy Health Minister Victor Bocangel.
The group will also be composed of Mario Cacho (Navy), Edwin Cordova (Air Force), Fernando Tapia (Army), and Jorge Luis Quiroz (Police), as well as Alejandro Lamberg, who represents private clinics.
"All of them are part of this operations command, under the leadership of
Dr. Mazzetti so that they can make operational decisions to face this disease relying on all authority," he expressed.
The Peruvian leader added that the decisions to be made by this command —on the health issue— will be mandatory for all the institutions that comprise it.
"We, as the Government, are here to give them the tools. If they require more beds, we are going to enable them. They will define (the measures) and we will act, that is the way of working," he affirmed.
For his part, Health Minister Victor Zamora said that this operations command will allow the resources —which are based in different parts of the country— to be mobilized effectively and promptly.
