15:00 | Cusco (Cusco region), May. 11.
People over 60 years of age living in Machu Picchu district, located in Cusco's Urubamba Province, will be immunized against COVID-19 between May 11 and 12, as part of the safe economy and tourism rebound promoted by the Regional Government of Cusco.
"We are working with railway and aviation companies because important steps are being taken for a much wider tourism promotion strategy," he said.
Benavente explained that the immunization will be available —at the right time— to all sectors involved in the region's tourism rebound, which will begin in Lima, the tourist corridor in Cusco, air and land terminals, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and Machu Picchu. However, biosafety protocols must be strictly observed.
Mass vaccination in provinces
However, the third week of vaccination efforts —focused on people aged 70 to 79 years— will begin on May 12. This campaign will run until Friday, May 14.
At the same time, the vaccination of people over 70 and 80 years of age will take place in the provinces of Chumbivilcas, Canas, Espinar, Anta, Calca, Urubamba, and La Convention, with a specific schedule.
