President Vizcarra: Peruvian health system is better strengthened

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday affirmed that Peru is already showing signs of frank recovery in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Head of State indicated that it is largely due to the strengthening that the nation's health system has experienced, thanks to the decisions made by his administration.

Within this framework, the top official pointed out that this policy exists not only due to the health emergency.

It will remain in force supported by the 2021 fiscal year budget.

"Our health system is stronger, and based on the (General) Budget bill for the 2021 fiscal year that we submitted to Congress, the health sector is our priority. Despite the economic problem that the pandemic has generated in the country, we are increasing the health budget by 13%," he expressed.

"We must improve the health sector, we must improve the education quality. That is what this pandemic has taught us, and we must learn from our own experiences," he added.

According to the statesman, more than half a million compatriots have already recovered from COVID-19, which means that more than 75% of people managed to defeat the novel coronavirus.

He added that the number of recovered citizens will continue to increase in the following weeks.

Remarks were made during a press conference held at the Government Palace in Lima.

The President was joined by Prime Minister Walter Martos and other Cabinet members on the occasion.
