Peru: Congress rejects confidence vote requested by Cateriano's Cabinet

The Congress of the Republic has rejected the vote of confidence requested by the Ministerial Cabinet led by Pedro Cateriano, who reached the Parliament headquarters on Monday to present the Government's general policy.

The Cabinet received 37 votes in favor, 54 against, and 34 abstentions at the end of the plenary session, which began on Monday morning and was concluded early Tuesday morning.

Before leaving the Congress building, Cateriano affirmed that when President Martin Vizcarra asked him to assume the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in mid-July, he believed it was his civic obligation to accept, given the difficult circumstances the country is going through.

In this sense, he affirmed that it was necessary to speak the truth instead of changing, compromising, or reconciling his points of view due to political reasons in such a complex context.

Additionally, Cateriano expressed gratitude to the lawmakers who said they would grant a vote of confidence as well as respect to those who said otherwise.

As is known, Pedro Cateriano and State ministers attended the above-mentioned session to present the Government's general policy and request a vote of confidence.
