The 2018 World Cup will kick off next week, and Peruvian fans are not immune to soccer fever as they leave Lima and other parts of the world to join their national team at this important event.
According to the online travel agency Despegar.com, some 13,000 Peruvian citizens have decided to
visit Russia for the World Cup, with St. Petersburg being the most popular destination among them.
In the case of Peru, air tickets cost about US$1,200 per passenger. Most of the transactions were made online, and bookings were made for two or more people.
Nevertheless, given the proximity of the tournament, tickets to Russia —the hosting nation— cost at least US$2,500 now.
Thus, the number of Peruvian passengers per flight increased up to 15 times the average purchase rate.
Online transactions were made by men (75%) and women (25%) aged between 25 and 50 years. Plus, 90% of them will arrive in
Moscow and plan to stay for 10 to 15 days.
As for accommodations, reservations rose fivefold after
Peru's qualification, and the majority of travelers opted for 3-star hotels.
