00:00 | Lima, Jun. 26.

The U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) will arrive at the port of Callao on a medical assistance mission to provide medical services and surgeries from July 9-14.

The visit will be held within the framework of the institutional cooperation agreement between the U.S. Navy and the Peruvian Navy and as part of a five-month deployment supporting partner countries in the region.
During the visit, the USNS Comfort medical team expects to perform up to 20 daily surgeries aboard the ship.

The USNS Comfort medical team will work in coordination with the Peruvian Navy, the Ministry of Health, and local governments to provide medical care to hundreds of patients per day in temporary medical centers.

The Ministry of Health will provide more information on the medical care sites in July, and will be in charge of selecting the candidates for surgery.

The USNS Comfort crew includes doctors, nurses, and military technicians from other countries in the region, as well as doctors and civilian technicians from the United States. They will work side by side with Peruvian doctors and health professionals.

The USNS Comfort has modern facilities including operating and post-surgery rooms, a computed tomography (CT) unit, X-ray equipment, a dental office, optometry laboratory, physical therapy area, two oxygen production plants, and a blood bank.

This is the fourth deployment of the USNS Comfort to Peru, and during these deployments it has treated a total of almost 23,000 patients. In 2007, the Comfort visited the Port of Salaverry, and in 2011 and 2018 the Comfort visited the Port of Paita.
