Presidents of Peru and Ecuador to meet in first half of 2024

The Presidents of Peru, Dina Boluarte, and of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, will hold a meeting in the first half of 2024, in Peruvian territory.


Likewise, the 15th Session of the Peru-Ecuador Binational Cabinet will be held on that future occasion, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Saturday evening.


At this event, on behalf of the Peruvian Government, Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea invited his Ecuadorian counterpart to visit Peru soon.

It was also agreed to reactivate the meetings of the Political Coordination and Consultation Mechanism known as "2+2," including the respective ministries of Interior, in ad hoc cases referring to organized crime.

Migration crisis and El Niño

At the working meeting, it was decided to continue working on solutions to the regional migration crisis, enhancing coordination in immigration control and security mechanisms in border areas, as well as safeguarding people's rights.

Moreover, both ministers agreed to adopt coordinated measures to mitigate the possible impacts of El Niño Phenomenon, as well as to work together with the aim of increasing air connectivity in the Andean subregion.

The representatives of both countries also discussed strengthening cooperation on oil and electric energy issues, deepening coordination on security issues, as well as in the fight against drug trafficking, illegal mining, and smuggling.
