President of Peru holds meeting with State ministers

The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte is meeting with members of the Ministerial Cabinet led by Pedro Angulo at the Government Palace in Lima.

According to the Presidency of the Republic, the meeting has taken place since 1:20 p.m. (local time) at the Executive Branch headquarters.

The meeting is held amid protests that have erupted in eight regions across the country.

The Peruvian National Police (PNP) reported that, to date, various roads remain blocked as a result of protests in Trujillo, Ica, Arequipa, Tacna, Abancay, Puno, Cusco, and Ucayali.

The Executive Branch has reported that demonstrations have turned violent in some sectors, causing the loss of two human lives.

President Boluarte delivered a televised Address to the Nation in the early hours of Monday to announce that she would submit a bill to Congress to bring general elections forward to April 2024, with the aim of reducing social unrest.
