The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Thursday affirmed that both the Government and authorities must work to place a high value on each city and site in Peru, with the aim of granting better options to its inhabitants.

"Here we have these five wonders that are in that showcase for the world (to see); it is an opportunity for more jobs, to place a high value on each district. That is the task that each of us —authorities and from the government— has to do, to place a high value on each city, on our sites, throughout Peru," she expressed.

Similarly, the Head of State indicated that our country is so beautiful and that the task of promoting tourism entrusted to Foreign Trade-Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews is important.

"We must promote this work so that we can, in addition to these five cities, place a high value on all our historic-cultural sites and capacities; I call on Transportation-Communications Minister Raul Perez Reyes to join efforts, as well as to enhance the roads and airports to these places," she said.

The top official underscored the recognition obtained by the five Peruvian towns, granted by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)  —out of 260 candidates from 60 countries.

"This recognition must not just occur today, and then we forget about it; but when the anniversary of political creation of each of these places arrives, from the Ministry of Foreign Trade (and Tourism) we must give it a different boost and celebrate in great style," she explained.

Tourism

President Boluarte announced that 37 million domestic tourism trips will have been made, plus a total of 2.5 million foreign tourists will have been received during 2023.

"In 2024, we are betting, and it will surely be so, we are going to support everything we can to develop the tourism sector, particularly in the towns that are recognized today," she added.

Furthermore, the Head of State announced that technical assistance will be provided to the municipalities of the recognized places. They will also be trained on service quality issues, and their local identity will be reinforced.
