The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte attended the Solemn Mass and Te Deum held on the occasion of Peru's 203rd Independence Day Anniversary celebrations.

The religious ceremony takes place at the Cathedral Basilica of Lima on Sunday morning.

This event also saw the presence of Peruvian State ministers, among other high-ranking officials.

Minutes before the ceremony, Mrs. Boluarte entered the temple wearing the presidential sash.

Previously, the dignitary had received the greetings from Ministers of State at the Government Palace —as the first official activity on the occasion of the Independence Anniversary.

Te Deum

The term "Te Deum" is Latin for "To You, God." It constitutes an ancient hymn of praise to God and represents a thanksgiving to the Almighty.

During the Mass and Te Deum, the celebrant gives thanks to the Supreme Being for Peru's Independence, and in some way reaffirms the link between the Peruvian State and the Catholic Church, which has been present in the country's history since the establishment of the Republic.
