Prime Minister Alberto Otarola affirmed that the Government will defend the Peruvian State and the memory of citizens murdered by terrorists —after the admission by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) of a lawsuit by convicted terrorist Victor Polay Campos against Peru.

"Our stance is united and firm; we are not going to back down from the defense of life, peace, and tranquility of all Peruvians, even less in terms of terrorism that caused so much damage to millions of Peruvians," Otarola indicated during a press conference on Friday.

After the meeting, Prime Minister Otarola emphasized that the State will not allow the meaning of the sentence imposed by Peruvian courts on the person convicted of terrorism, Victor Polay Campos, to be enervated.

The government official reported that it was agreed to activate the intersectoral working group for the legal defense of the Peruvian State in terrorism cases before the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights.

The Cabinet head also announced that additional resources will be allocated to strengthen the work of the Supranational State Attorney's Office.

Besides, Otarola reminded citizens that Victor Polay Campos faces legal proceedings for murders in "Las Gardenias" case, and an investigation for endorsement of terrorism.

"During the Government of President Boluarte, that terrorist will not be released from prison. The Government has the responsibility to request the pre-trial detention and prosecution of that terrorist over other serious crimes against humanity," he stated.

"Therefore, we ask the Public Ministry and the Judiciary to act promptly and consolidate the proceedings, so that the rights of thousands of Peruvians are no longer affected," he added.

Besides, Otarola reaffirmed Peru's membership at the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights and underscored that this represents a guarantee for the defense of all Peruvian citizens.

"We are respectful of international treaties, but also, whenever we must, we raise our voice in protest against acts that affect the conscience and dignity of millions of Peruvians," he concluded.
