Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Wednesday affirmed that the decision to hand over the Pacific Alliance Pro-Tempore Presidency to Peru from August 1, 2023, reflects the professionalism of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in the matter.

"We have addressed several topics. One of them, of special importance, is the positive agenda in terms of foreign relations. Peru will receive the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Pacific Alliance as of August 1 this year," Otarola announced.

"Beyond the known problems, this represents a very important agreement for the country, as well as reflects the efficiency and professionalism of our Foreign Affairs Ministry," he added.

Thus, the Cabinet chief affirmed that an orderly transfer will take place as a result of the effort by the Foreign Affairs ministries of the four member countries: Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Colombia.

"This will be an orderly transfer; it is an effort (undertaken) by the four Foreign Affairs ministries, and what Peru is going to do is look forward because what matters, at this moment, is the strengthening of an alliance that is so important for the interests of all Peruvians and countries that have committed their efforts and investments to this alliance," he highlighted.

The government's spokesman added that during this timeframe the economic mechanisms related to the Pacific Alliance have continued to work. Thus, Peru will continue working, seeking its development and that of other member countries.

Furthermore, Otarola said the possibility of President Dina Boluarte receiving this assignment in person will be evaluated by the Executive Branch, since there is currently a law that allows
remote management of the Presidential Office, with the approval of Congress.

Remarks were made to reporters at the Government Palace Courtyard of Honor in the Peruvian capital, Lima, after a session of the Council of Ministers.
