Peru's
Foreign Affairs Minister Miguel Angel Rodriguez Mackay called for putting national interests above the domestic political agenda, adding that the existing polarization will not provide any benefit for the country's development, quite the opposite.
"It is an absence that should never have occurred. We must take into account the national interests. We must put said values (national interests) above the domestic political agenda," he remarked.
On behalf of the Government, the high-ranking official expressed deep appreciation to Peru's sister countries for expressing their concern about the situation that the Andean nation is experiencing, describing it as a political and supportive gesture.
"There is concern from outside Peru (the international community) about what is happening in the country," the minister pointed out.
"We are not thinking about the advantage, the surplus, if this polarization is going to produce benefits, quite the opposite," he added.
Democratic Charter
In this regard, the government official underscored that an atomized situation could be generated if polarization and the lack of dialogue in the country are on the rise, which would lead to the implementation of the Inter-American Democratic Charter.
"That is not the spirit, that is not the goal. I have always believed that we have to verify the processes on the way. I always think and believe in firm dialogue, which contributes the most to promoting spaces of trust and interaction," he said.
