The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday affirmed that his administration aims for private investment carried out with transparency, clear rules, and respect for workers.

During the signing of the tender contract for the new passenger terminal at Jorge Chavez International Airport, the President projected these works will position Peru as the main tourism and logistics hub in the region.

"This expansion entails an investment of US$1.2 billion by private companies for the benefit of all of us; we aim for private investment, but with transparency, clear rules, and respect for workers," he expressed.

"It (investment) is welcome and promoted. Peru needs private investment without corruption to move forward," the Head of State remarked.

Mr. Castillo mentioned that —in the first 61 days in office— his administration has met many demands of the population, but has not brushed aside large infrastructure and connectivity works.

In addition, it has prioritized the modernization of ports and airports to promote tourism.

The Peruvian leader noted that Jorge Chavez International Airport is of major importance, given that it is the main entrance point into the country and has been —in recent years— a cornerstone of the economic recovery and the fight against the pandemic, as it has handled all shipments of vaccines arriving from abroad.

Consequently, he said, the current administration has resumed the expansion project of the country's main airport, which has generated 2,200 jobs.

According to the top official, 3,500 jobs will be created with the construction of the new passenger terminal, thus turning the airport and Callao Port into the leading transport and logistics platforms.

"This will be the premier air hub in the region," he pointed out.
