Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti thanked the Congress of the Republic for having granted the vote of confidence to the Ministerial Cabinet led by Violeta Bermudez and asked the Legislative Branch to work in a collaborative manner for the development of the country.

"I thank Congress for the confidence granted to the Cabinet. The severe emergency affecting us requires the Government and Parliament to work together, with determination, empathy, and tolerance to resume the path of progress and development, for the benefit of all Peruvians," he said on Thursday via Twitter.

On the other hand, the Head of State deeply lamented the death of a young worker from Viru (La Libertad region).

"I express my condolences to his relatives. Those responsible will be severely punished. Exercising the right to protest should not lead to death," he stated.

In addition, the Peruvian leader explained that protesting to demand rights "is legitimate," but blocking roads "is not only unconstitutional and illegitimate —because it affects various citizen rights— but also a crime that the State cannot tolerate."

"I have instructed the Interior Minister (Cluber Aliaga) to lead police operations, which must be carried out in line with constitutional and legal provisions so as to restore internal order and social peace," he added.

In this sense, he explained that the Government has been working on a proposal "to address all aspects of the problem in order to improve the rights of our farmers, to whom we owe so much and who have sustained us during the pandemic."

"This implies labor improvements and an assessment of the entire agricultural system," the President pointed out.
