The
on Tuesday affirmed that her Government's commitment is to move forward with a process of pacification and boost to development in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro (VRAEM) Rivers, where the Peruvian State continues fighting against subversive remnants.
After highlighting that this fact changed the course of Peruvian history, Mrs. Boluarte expressed gratitude and recognition to the former GEIN members for having granted peace and social harmony to this country, restoring citizens' hope.
The top official indicated that the Peruvian State firmly continues fighting against Shining Path remnants, who are currently allied with narcoterrorists in areas such as the VRAEM.
In this sense, Mrs. Boluarte said she is convinced that soon, supported by law enforcement, this space —currently in state of emergency— will be recovered to ensure a peaceful society.
"This way, we will give way to a process of pacification and boost to development; that is our commitment," she underlined.
In this regard, the president reiterated that the Peruvian State will defend the interests of 33 million Peruvians, adding that "not even a single Sol (Peruvian currency) from the Public Treasury will be allocated to pay terrorists."
"We will remain firm in the fight against terrorism, and we will do so for the memory of the victims of those criminals, for our defenders of democracy, and for each Peruvian man and woman who wants to live in a country in peace, with unity and development. Long live Peru," she stated.
At the event, the president awarded "Defenders of Democracy" medals to GEIN members, including 28 brave agents who lost their lives in the line of duty. In gratitude and tribute to them, Mrs. Boluarte asked for a minute of silence.
Today's event also saw the presence of Cabinet Chief Alberto Otarola, Interior Minister Vicente Romero, Police Commander General Jorge Angulo, among others.
