Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti on Tuesday highlighted the important work of the Armed Forces in the country's development and affirmed that they are poised to defend democracy and ensure the well-being of all citizens living in the national territory.
Precisely, the Head of State highlighted the presence of young officers in military institutions who —upon graduation— demonstrate their vocation for service and work permanently nationwide, applying everything they have learned in class.
The President of the Republic indicated that these Armed Forces' young officers represent all the dedication they put to their studies, but also the struggle and sacrifice they have put into shaping a promising future.
Mr. Sagasti highlighted the fact that two of the three Swords of Honor have been awarded to Peruvian women, who were the best students in their respective classes.
"They represent the constant struggle that women face every day to keep on going. We have witnessed that the Defense sector has been incorporating and strengthening the presence of female citizens little by little, thus empowering them and fostering more inclusive institutions, and
the country's first Minister of Defense (Nuria Esparch) can testify to this," he emphasized.
The statesman noted that —in these challenging times— Peru also needs men and women who have been forged at military institutions, according to the demands and needs of the country in its third century of independent life.
The ceremony took place at the Courtyard of Honor of the Government Palace in the capital city of Lima.
