New Prime Minister Hector Valer on Wednesday affirmed that the Government will continue to promote living borders and national development.

Earlier today, the Cabinet chief held a meeting with new Defense Minister Jose Luis Gavidia, the Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, and the General Commanders of the armed institutes to discuss the promotion of living borders —especially the one shared with neighboring country Brazil.

"The issue we have discussed is living borders, the national development of the country, and we have essentially underlined (the topic of) Peru's border with Brazil because our president will travel to Brazil," he said in remarks to reporters standing outside the Executive Branch headquarters.

The high-ranking official mentioned as an example the case of the border with Colombia, in the Putumayo basin, and highlighted the need to replicate that case in other border areas.

The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen the historical ties of friendship and cooperation, as well as promote the bilateral agenda, through a space for high-level political dialogue.
