Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez has announced that a protection program has been activated for the families of victims of repression during protests in Peru, which took place after the presidential vacancy approved by Congress.

"As we agreed yesterday (on Saturday), we have activated a protection program for the families of victims of repression during said demonstrations and for the brigade members who provided aid," she posted on Twitter.

"This (the protection program) will be run by a team of civilians led by the Deputy Minister for Internal Order of the Interior Ministry of Peru," the Cabinet chief added.

According to the updated report by COE Salud (Health Emergency Operations Center) on Sunday at 11 a.m., 210 citizens were treated for injuries sustained during the protests. Of those, one was treated in Cusco, and the remaining 209 in Lima.

As is known, the impeachment of former President Martin Vizcarra and subsequent swearing-in of Manuel Merino as then Head of State sparked off major protests nationwide, leaving two protesters dead, many others injured, and dozens missing.

The first fatality was 22-year-old Jack Bryan Pintado Sanchez, who suffered gunshot wounds.

The second one, Inti Sotelo Camargo —aged 24 years— was admitted to a hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest at heart level.
