Justice and Human Rights Minister Anibal Torres on Tuesday showed confidence that the
President of the Republic Pedro Castillo will form a Ministerial Cabinet which will contribute to governability, adding that it will be led by a person open to dialogue.
"Whatever the President decides, I think he will do it in the most beneficial way to establish governability, and he would appoint a prime minister, of course, who is open to dialogue and who can dialogue with all political forces from the right, center, and left," Torres told Exitosa radio.
Likewise, the high-ranking official expressed confidence that the new Cabinet chief will be a professionally capable person —one with probity, honesty, and morality to lead the office.
The Cabinet member affirmed that several of the current ministers have the profile to become Prime Minister. However, it is a decision that corresponds solely to the Head of State, he noted.
On the other hand, Torres recalled that from the moment he became Justice and Human Rights minister, he established a policy of putting an end to the "golden prisons" and of non-discrimination of prison inmates —even more so for those officials who had held high offices.
Concerning the case of sentenced
former President Alberto Fujimori, he said there are internal National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) reports which determined that he should be held at Ancon II Prison.
However, the government official said ex-INPE Chairwoman Susana Silva did not notify him when Fujimori returned to Barbadillo Prison in Lima —a penitentiary center that he described as a "golden prison."
In this sense, minister affirmed that the former president's health status should be analyzed again and that —once his condition allows it— he should be transferred to an ordinary prison.
Torres also specified that the sentence against Fujimori does not specify at which penitentiary center he should be held.
