The new Minister of Interior Willy Huerta affirmed that the priority of the sector under his leadership will be to strengthen public safety.

"We will coordinate with the Commander General of the National Police from now on, and we will undertake productive work, which is something that has not been done before," Huerta said at a press conference.

"We are here to continue working. We are not here to divide people, but to add, not to subtract," he said in his statement from the Government Palace.

On the other hand, the new Interior sector's head referred to the recently formed special team —responsible for tracking wanted people— of the General Directorate of Intelligence led by Colonel Harvey Colchado.

"We will carry out an assessment, we will coordinate a time to talk with said team, and you will be soon informed about it," he told reporters.

Regarding the capture of fugitive former officials Bruno Pacheco and Juan Silva, the minister affirmed that his sector will continue to use the line of action taken by the National Police of Peru (PNP) in order to find their whereabouts.

"There is work to be done. The National Police has already defined the plans that will be executed. Besides, the PNP is aware of the functions it must perform and must achieve what it was entrusted to do," he said.

"The sector will continue in the same vein. We will continue working in coordination with the Commander General, and you will be hearing news soon," the government official remarked.

Remarks were delivered after his swearing-in ceremony at the Government Palace in Lima on Tuesday night.
