Health Minister Hernando Cevallos has affirmed that Deputy Public Health Minister Gustavo Rosell and Deputy Benefits-Health Insurance Minister Bernardo Ostos, as well as previous administration's technical teams, are expected to remain in their role as they have done a good job in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

"They (deputy ministers and technical teams) will remain in their posts but will rather be joined by the technical team that we are bringing to create a collective intelligence, enhance what we have, and improve it if possible. But we need to get the best from the previous experience," Cevallos pointed out.

In this sense, he welcomed the work undertaken by former Health Minister Oscar Ugarte, in terms of the fight against the pandemic as well as the procurement and administration of COVID-19 vaccines.

"Actually, as for the procurement of vaccines, they are not coming as quick as we want. Anyway, we will get a good deal of them by the end of the year —in the last quarter— which will allow us to set much bolder goals," the minister underlined

In this regard, the government official estimated that the entire (eligible) population over the age of 18 —as well as a group of teenagers and children— will have been vaccinated by the end of this year, to strengthen the protection of Peruvians against COVID-19.

"We aim to have the entire population over 18 years and an age group of teenagers and children vaccinated by the end of the year, which will allow us maximize protection of our people against the pandemic," the Cabinet member stated.

Moreover, he indicated that about 60% of the Peruvian population will be vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of September this year.

The high-ranking official went on to say that President Pedro Castillo will be inoculated with the Sinopharm vaccine to set the example and show that this jab is effective against the virus.

As is known, Minister Cevallos —who was sworn into office on July 29— is part of new President Pedro Castillo's Government.
