Economy and Finance Minister Maria Antonieta Alva affirmed that the Government's proposal for the 2021 public sector budget will prioritize health and education sectors.

"We have been given a mandate by the President to put health and education as a priority, and we are making a great effort to find out spaces to optimize spending, but the final proposal has to be validated by the Council of Ministers," she said in remarks to RPP radio and TV station on Tuesday.

"Starting next week, I will meet with each minister to discuss their budget allocation proposals, and the idea is to approve this in the Council of Ministers in August and then support it before Congress," she added.

"The initial startup budget for this year is approximately S/18.4 billion (around US$5.21 billion), and next year it would be S/20 billion (around US$5.66 billion)," the minister stated.

"It should be pointed out that we are in a context of a falling budget, so this will be a significant effort," she stressed.
