Officials from the Peruvian Embassy in the United States participated in the pre-premiere screening of the movie "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" in Washington D.C., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported.

It was an occasion that was conducive to promoting the South American country as a destination for film locations, in line with the "Film in Peru" strategy, and with the purpose of contributing to the growth of the tourism sector, as well as of investments in Peruvian territory.

The event, which took place on June 6 at the Motion Pictures Association (MPA) theater —an entity that brings together the most important film studios worldwide— was sponsored by said institution and Paramount Pictures, which distributes the movie.

This important activity brought together representatives of film companies, the private sector, think tanks, international organizations, diplomatic corps, the U.S. Government and Congress, who had previously enjoyed Peruvian gastronomy, Pisco, and folklore.

During his presentation, Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Gustavo Meza-Cuadra, highlighted the enormous potential of our country as a film location, with its privileged geography and ancient culture, as well as the recent launch of the "Film in Peru" strategy.

Its objective is to provide Peruvian and international producers with facilities and support for producing full-length films, short films, as well as series and documentaries.

Discover the key sites featured in the movie and start planning your dream travel to these top bucket list destinations.

San Martin

Located in the northern high jungle of Peru, this region is ideal for nature lovers, hikers and bird watchers in search of new landscapes. Imagine waterfalls and cascades falling on natural stones and forming pools in the middle of an intense green landscape.

Cusco

This is the most famous region of Peru. The ancient city of Cusco was organized and built in the shape of a puma, with the head located in Saqsaywaman, a military complex built with stones as large as 5 meters that weigh around 120 tons.

Nowadays, the city center's architecture is predominantly Colonial Spanish built on top of the stony old city and the result is strikingly beautiful.

In the Sacred Valley of Urubamba, one of the largest salt extraction centers of pre-Hispanic origin, Maras, is nested in steep valley slopes, a white strip of 5,000 salt ponds staggered down in terraces.

Machu Picchu is one of the most amazing New 7 Wonders of the World. This place may be the best example that mankind can build a gigantic stony complex in the middle of a heavenly landscape while respecting the natural harmony and the result is really moving.

The Story

The Paramount production —directed by Steven Caple Jr. which stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback— serves as both a sequel to Bumblebee (2018) and prequel to the Transformers saga.

The story is set in 1994, when Noah Diaz (Ramos), an ex-military electronics expert, and archaeologist Elena Wallace (Fishback) are part of a war between the Autobots and three factions of the Transformers race: the Maximals, the Predacons, and the Terrorcons.

Director Steve Caple Jr. said that he had chosen the site for the "spiritual connection that is felt in sacred places."

At a virtual event held long ago by Paramount, Caple Jr. commented on the chance to film in Cusco —located high and deep in the Andes Mountain range— where you can find traces of a sophisticated Inca civilization that survived in time and is still alive in Cusco communities.

The movie "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" opens in the United States on June 9, 2023.

Film in Peru

'Film in Peru' is a strategy by the Peruvian Commission for Promotion of Export and Tourism (PromPeru) to promote the country as a film destination, raising awareness of the country's identity and image.

Peru offers an amazing geography and a vast culture that make the country a destination with countless locations and diverse settings where all kinds of stories can be told. Peru is history, nature, culture, and adventure.

In addition, the country is a melting pot of ethnicities and living cultures with cultural manifestations of vibrant colors and a rich folklore that fuses music, dances, and traditional celebrations that have transcended time.

Also, its diverse gastronomy stands out. The result of the fusion of climates, cultures, colors and flavors of the Coastline, the Andes mountains and the Amazon make the experience of filming in Peru unforgettable.

We invite you to discover the Peruvian locations here.
