Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Oswaldo de Rivero, on Wednesday afternoon recalled details of the events that occurred earlier at the diplomat's official residence in Washington D.C., where an intruder entered without authorization.

After saying that it was an "unusual and painful" event, the envoy specified that at 7:10 a.m. (local time) a tall man (approximately 1.80 meters) smashed the windows in the yard to enter the residence.

The subject —in his 20s or older— was carrying a four-foot iron bar.

"I ordered all officials who live at the embassy with me to lock themselves in their bedrooms. Thank God, two people who work at the embassy permanently came out with some small sticks to try to stop him, but they couldn't do so because he had a longer weapon," he said in remarks to RPP Noticias.

At that time, the diplomat said, he called the U.S. Secret Service that protects the embassies, and its members arrived within five minutes.

"They told him to stop, but he ignored them; then they gave him an electric shock, which had no effect; afterwards, he pounced on them and they then shot him," the ambassador added.

As detailed by De Rivero, the residence garden is enormous and a wall of not much height separates it from a forest that is in the surroundings.

To enter the area, the subject climbed the wall and jumped into the property.

"The sad part is that he didn't say anything; he broke everything; he must have been 20 years old or so, quite young," he indicated.
