Peru: Victor Zanabria named new National Police Commander General

19:58 | Lima, Jan. 22.

Lieutenant General Victor Jose Zanabria Angulo was appointed as Commander General of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) on Monday.

The appointment was made official by Supreme Resolution No. 020-2024-IN, which was published in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

Thus, Zanabria Angulo will replace Jose Luis Angulo Tejada in the post, whose appointment was terminated today.

Angulo's appointment to the post was terminated by Supreme Resolution No. 019-2024-IN, which changed his police status from active to retired status.

Moreover, the document indicates that very serious negligence has been shown in the control and command of the police institution, which would constitute incompatibility and lack of suitability for the exercise of said position.

This responds to what happened during the official activities of President Boluarte in Ayacucho, who was taking part in a ceremony that laid the groundwork for the paving of a road in said jurisdiction, when a group of women approached her all of a sudden. One of them pulled the dignitary's hair. After the attack, the woman was separated by police officers, who arrested her.

Both decrees were signed by the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte and Interior Minister Victor Torres.
