Peru: Transformers returns to Cusco to film scenes at Sacsayhuaman

15:47 | Cusco (Cusco region), Sep. 28.

The filming of the movie Tranformers: Rise of the Beasts returns to Cusco region. On this occasion, the locations will be Saycsayhuaman Archaeological Park and the city's historic center, it was reported.

For the filming to proceed smoothly, the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco (DDCC) ordered the suspension of the entry of visitors to Sacsayhuaman's monumental zone —made up of Muyuqmarca, Rodadero, and Chinkana bastions— on October 6 and 7.

Likewise, it was confirmed that —on those days due to filming— services will be unavailable to the public. Besides, the checkpoints located in Llaullipata, Sapantiana, and Puqro will be closed.

However, tourist visits will only be allowed to other archaeological attractions located within the archaeological park such as: Pukapukara, Q'enqo, and Tambomachay.

Possible restrictive measures in the historic center of Cusco have not yet been announced. However, there is great expectation among the Imperial City's population about this movie whose scenes were recently filmed in Machu Picchu and Tarapoto.

At the beginning of September, the Machu Picchu citadel became the stage for the filming of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Officials authorized the filming for four days and took great care to avoid damage to this wonder of the world.

Filming in Machu Picchu only involved the main actor and actress, and the rest of the filming will be a virtual recreation of the robots.

Filming in the Historic Center of Cusco

In this regard, Economic Development and Municipal Services Manager Juan Carlos Galdos said the producer already relies on authorization, as well as that granted by the Decentralized Directorate of Culture.

"Commitments were signed to prevent damage to the heritage, given that Cusco is protected by UNESCO," the official said without ruling out that streets and avenues will be closed during the days of filming.
