Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Edgar Vasquez on Tuesday inaugurated the Peruvian stand at the China International Import Expo (CIIE), which recently opened its doors in the city of Shanghai, Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) has reported.

"In this second edition of CIIE, Peru is one of the Guest Countries of Honor. Therefore, we have come to showcase the best of our exportable supply and tourist destinations hand-in-hand with representatives of the private sector and (Peruvian) regions," the cabinet member stressed.

In order to increase Peru's presence in the Asian market —and especially in China— 30 food export companies and tour operators are gathered in this metropolis to hold business meetings with their international peers.

The Peruvian stand relies on the latest generation of virtual reality devices featuring Inca tourist destinations, touch screens that inform attendees about the benefits of our Superfoods, in addition to a gastronomic bar serving coffee and pisco. Besides, it has a special space for textiles.

"China demands a large quantity of goods and services worldwide. Thanks to the good relations we have with this country, reflected in the 10 years of the Free Trade Agreement with Peru or the 170 years of Chinese migration, today they are our main trading partners (...)," PromPeru Executive-President Luis Torres Paz said.

Nowadays, Peruvian goods represent 1% of total Chinese imports. Thus, the Asian Giant means a market with vast potential for Inca exports.

Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) Chairman Erik Fischer; National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) Head Carlos Canales; Peru-China Chamber of Commerce Chief Jose Pagador, as well as Huancavelica Region Governor Maciste Diaz were in attendance at the opening ceremony.

Under the Superfoods Peru's brand, 16 companies —from the agricultural and fishing sectors— exhibit their products, among which quinoa, maca, chia, kiwicha, avocado, beans, coffee, cacao, sacha inchi, and shrimp stand out.

The China International Import Expo (CIIE) takes place in Shanghai on November 5-10, 2019.
