Peru: Six regions receive 50 tons of medicines and protective equipment

17:25 | Lima, May. 21.

Ica, Huancavelica, Moquegua, Huanuco, Cusco, Puno, and Ancash regions currently receive 50 tons of personal protective equipment (PPE), medicines, rapid tests, and medical supplies from the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud).

EsSalud rapid response teams have recently proceeded to send such implements, which are aimed at medical and healthcare personnel in direct contact with coronavirus (covid-19) patients who receive specialized care at health centers and hospitals.

The goods were dispatched from Air Group No. 8 of the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) in Callao, the Peruvian Army Aviation, and the EsSalud central warehouse in Lima.

According to EsSalud, part of the cargo was transported by road, including 5.6 tons to Ica, a similar amount to Huancavelica, and 10 tons to Huanuco.

Strategic Goods Supply Center Manager Sandra Ramos supervised the departure of the trucks from the EsSalud central warehouse operated by Salog.

"We take care of those who take care of us. The fight against coronavirus is not over yet," Ramos expressed.

She underscored that the management team led by EsSalud Executive-President Fiorella Molinelli has been working effectively, meeting the existing supply needs in the country.
