Peru reports ninth case of COVID-19 Delta variant

The ninth case of the COVID-19 Delta variant has been identified in Lima's district of San Martin de Porres, where an epidemiological surveillance activity has been carried out to prevent its spread, Health Minister Oscar Ugarte reported on Wednesday.

"We have confirmed the ninth case in the country, this time in San Martin de Porres, and that it is linked to the immediate family of the case reported in (the district of) Comas," he underlined.

The minister explained that the other Delta variant cases were detected in the southern region of Arequipa (3) and in Lima's Comas district (5).

Ugarte reiterated his call for citizens not to lower the guard against the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are carrying out our detection task and the epidemiological surveillance activity, but the population has to assume the great commitment of taking care of itself and avoiding possible infection," he stated.

Remarks were made at the inauguration of an oxygen production plant in Lima's district of San Borja.
