National cement production will increase 1.5% in 2017, following two years of negative results, Peruvian Association of Cement Producers (Asocem) projected on Monday.
Growth will be led by the cement production recovery expected for the second half of the current year.
According to Asocem CEO Carlos Ferraro, the industry will expand 5% in the second semester.
As is known, the Inca nation was at the mercy of "
Coastal El Niño" phenomenon in the January-March period. The event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides and floods, which left thousands of citizens homeless.
Despite the fact that the industry saw a contraction (-5%) in 2017's first quarter, sector's companies have made the necessary investments to meet the demand, Ferraro concluded.
