09:32 | Lima, Dec. 26.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office carried out a search operation at the home and offices of ex-Defense Minister Walter Ayala, as part of the case of irregular promotions in the Armed Forces.

The operation, carried out in coordination with the High Complexity Investigations Division (Diviac) of the National Police, began at around 4:00 a.m. on Monday, December 26, according to media reports.

The measure was adopted by the First Preparatory Investigation Court of the Superior Court of Justice in Lima, at the request of the Public Ministry.

Walter Ayala is being investigated for the alleged crimes of influence peddling, illegal sponsorship, and abuse of authority in the State.

During his term in office, ex-General Commanders Jose Vizcarra (Army) and Jorge Chaparro (Air Force) —who claimed having being pressured by the Exutive Branch to orchestrate irregular promotions— were substituted.
