The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday inspected four schools in Pacaran district, Cañete province.

These visits included Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe No. 20174 Educational Institution; IEI No. 509 Initial Education Institution; Antunez de Mayolo School which houses adolescents and secondary level students; as well as San Martin de Porres No. 20175 Primary Level School.

The Executive Branch will not rest until open admission to universities is clear, the Head of State reiterated during the unexpected inspection of the reconstruction works of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. These facilities were affected by Coastal El Niño Phenomenon back in 2017.

"The Government is working on open admission to universities, it is an ambitious project, an assignment from the country, and we won't stop until we have made it clear. Our children, once they have finished (high) school, decide to become someone in life, but sometimes they (their wishes) do not match the family economy; we are focused on that (reversing the situation)," he assured students.

The reconstruction project entails an investment of S/ 4.48 million (about US$1.12 million) and includes the construction of classrooms, a multipurpose room, a technological innovation room, a school library, a teachers' room, toilets, a kitchen, among others, as well as school and technological equipment.

The top official toured the facilities of this educational institution joined by Pacaran Mayor Julio Cesar Chanca —who declared him an illustrious guest of the district— and Jesus Sanchez, who serves as director of this educational institution.

During his stay at San Martin de Porres Educational Institution, the Head of State stressed the importance of children relying on proper spaces and tools to be able to study.

Addressing the minors, he recalled his work as a teacher in northern Andean Cajamarca region and expressed his commitment to support education from the Government.

"You have to study," he stated.

Moreover, Mr. Castillo argued that strengthening education does not only entail having good educational institutions and trained teachers, but also generating the necessary conditions and tools so that, once young people finish high school, they can have the opportunity to enroll at a university.

Within this framework, the Head of State announced that he will continue to carry out inspections at educational institutions so as to assess the infrastructure and health-related conditions in which children and adolescents study.

"We will continue to oversee the infrastructure and the conditions in which the educational service is provided to pupils, as well as the food provided by the Qali Warma Program," he specified.

Qali Warma guarantees food for public school students in Peru during the school year, in accordance with their characteristics and the areas where they reside.
